IPL 2018: Chennai Super Kings Squad analysis


No one can forget Chennai Super Kings when it comes to IPL, being the most consistent team of INDIAN PREMIERE LEAGUE and popular team among the fans, are all set to return in this edition with a blockbuster entry after facing a suspension for 2 years.

M.S Dhoni will be leading the side to glory this year and will be playing the inaugural match against the defending champions Mumbai Indians.


The team is being built around core players.

The franchise retained Dhoni alongside stalwarts Ravindra Jadeja and Suresh Raina. These three players have now been a part for CSK for 8 years in row. During the auction the also picked some of the key players like Bravo, du Plessis and Murili Vijay.

CSK also managed to pick some of the key players like Shane Watson, Harbhajan Singh and Ambati Raydu all of whom can contribute on the big stage whenever required.

From the domestic circuit, the 25-year old Deepak Chahar’s inclusion is a wonderful addition to the yellow brigade. With 29 wickets in 25 T20s, Chahar was an important part of the Rajasthan side that reached the finals of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.


Analysis of CSK Batsmen in rank


Vijay alongside former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson would be the likely pair to open the innings.

The middle order will be in safe hands of Raina, Faf and Dhoni aiming to become the backbone and core strength for their team.

Raina is their go to man! As he has scored the highest no. of runs in IPL history. He has 4,540 runs in 161 matches with a top score of 100 runs.


Analysis of CSK All-rounders


Shane Watson will be a key for them in All-rounder department by adding his bowling skills alongside his batting strength.

Bravo is another match winner for the team who has played a vital role in winning games for them over the years.

With Jadeja lower down the order they have a good slogger who can bowl four crucial overs for the team and take wickets with his left arm spin when required.


Analysis of Bowlers


This year the team is heavily relying on their spinner to do well for them.

They have quality spinner like Veteran Harbhajan Singh Mitchell Santner form New Zeland,  South Africa’s Imran Tahir and Karn Sharma.

However Santner is likely to miss the tournament due to ankle injury.

They don’t have a good pace department. Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, South Africa’s Lungi Ngidi and England’s Mark Wood are in the squad.


Chennai Super Kings have appointed former New Zealand skipper, Stephen Fleming as the head coach. Moreover, Lakshmipathy Balaji has been roped in as the bowling coach of the team.
