ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup

After several T20 leagues like BPL, RamSlam, Big Bash 2017 finally we have a big tournament from ICC. This tournament will be very helpful for the future generation and this is like a platform for all youngsters taking part in this. ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup 2018 is the 12th edition of the Under-19 Cricket World Cup. The tournament is starting from 13 January and play until 3 February 2018. The ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2018 Schedule has announced by ICC. New Zealand is hosting the 12th season of the U19 world cup a third time. A total of 16 teams are playing in the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2018. 10 teams are full members of the International Cricket Council as of 2016. While Namibia has qualified automatically for the tournament. The other five teams i.e., Afghanistan,Kenya, Canada, Papua New Guinea, Ireland, these five teams were the winners of the five regional under-19 tournaments.

Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Afghanistan,Kenya, Canada, Papua New Guinea, Ireland. Squads are not announced for few countries like Sri Lanka, West Indies,Zimbabwe, Papua New Guinea, Namibia,Canada , Kenya while New Zealand has announced only 10 members.

Australia

Australia were the three times champions of this tournament. They were the champions of 1988, 2002 and 2010. They have been playing official Under-19 test matches since 1978. The coach of this present team is Matthew Elliot.

They have been  playing official Under-19 ODI matches since 1997 including competing in the last five world cups. They have not won any tournament but in 2016 they stood at 3rd position in pionts table. They also hosted this tournament twice.

England were the unexpected winners of the second under 19 world cup. They were the champions of 1998 and after that they have not won any other under 19 world cup. They have been playing official Under-19 test matches since 1974. Jonathan Trott will play a role as batting coach and Jon Lewis, the former England’s pacer, will be the head coach.

Like New Zealand they are also only runners up. They were the runners up of 2000. They have not won any title in this tournament. They were Semifinalists in 2010 and 2016. Roy Dias is the coach.

They were the title holders of 2014. They have been playing official Under-19 test matches since 1995. Laurence Mahatlane is the coach for South Africa’s under 19 team.

Stephen Mangonga is the coach. They have not won any title or they were neither runners up nor semifinalists but in the year 2004 they stood at 6th position in points table.

Namibia

Namibia has qualified for the Under 19 world cup on eight occasions, more than any other associate member of the International Cricket Council. The team’s best performance was at the 2016 Under 19 world cup in Bangladesh, where it defeated defending championsSouth Africa in the group stage and eventually placed seventh, equaling Afghanistan’s performance at the 2014 event as the best by an associate. By finishing as the best-ranked associate team at the 2016 World Cup, Namibia secured automatic qualification for 2018 world cup.

Afghanistan

Afghanistan Under 19 is also having a good year so far. Recently they won Asia cup and day by day they are extending their win mark.They started playing Under 19 world cup in 2010. In 2014 they stood in 7th position in points table which was their best. Dawlat Ahmadzai is the coach for Afghanistan.

Papua New Guinea

Eight people have captained Papua New Guinea in under-19 One Day International matches. They lost only two matches to Ireland and Afghanistan.

Kenya

Kenya has qualified for ICC under 19 world cup only on four occassions and they are in the year 1998,2000,2002 and this year,2018.  Overall, Kenya has won 29.41% (5 out of 17) of its World Cup matches, with a best performance of 11th place in 1998.

Ryan Eagleson is the coach for Ireland. Their first appearance in ICC under 19 world cup was in the year 1998. Their best performance was finishing in 10th place in 2010.
